Elders are primarily responsible for overseeing the spiritual care of the congregation (1 Tim 3:1–7; Ti 1:5–9). Consequently, the primary task of elders is shepherding (1 Pt 5:2). Shepherding includes teaching, guiding, counseling, and protecting the church.
